I love having a lot of green plants everywhere in the house. I can therefore never get enough decorative plant pots. This plant pot is a little bit out of the ordinary – an embroidered plant pot. Embroidery and plant pots sounds a bit absurd – however – it works.
The plant pot is made as simple stramaj embroidery on plastic canvas. The canvas is cut into four equal squares and embroidered with wool. The wool is the same left overs I used to embroider on old book pages (here).
Having embroidered all four squares they have been sewn together with a dark thread. The dark thread works as a contrast which I like a lot.
In order to make the embroidered plant pot waterproof and prevent that the embroidery becomes wet, it has to be lined with plastic. I have used plastic from a thick plastic envelope which we got Christmas gifts in. The plastic from the envelope is very strong and I’m sure it will be able to keep the pot waterproof.
The plastic is cut as shown on the drawing below and afterwards glued together with all the a’s meeting the b’s. By cutting the plastic this way there should not be any edges where the water can run out. Finally the plastic pot is glued inside the embroidered pot – ready for use.
I quite like the results and the embroidered plant pot is now home for my orchid. The orchid is once again full of buds and I’m looking forward to it flowering.
