Embroidery has for me always been connected with cross stitches on canvas – a little bit dull. However, is does not have to be that way. Lately I have started embroidering on different recycled materials and it is actually quite a lot of fun. An obvious material for embroidery is leftover pieces of old jeans. I have previous shown a lot of projects where I have recycled the fabric from old warn-out jeans which has given me a lot of small leftovers.
Halloween is approaching and therefore it’s the theme of today’s four embroideries. The spiders legs is made with chain stitch, the body with satin stitches and the eyes are french knots. Before I start a work like this I’m always drawing a rough outline of the motif on the back which gives me something to stitch after.
The ghosts are made from satin stitches only. I’m not quite sure what this type of yarn is called, however, I do like the ‘raw’ look it has.
There is always a lot of bats for Halloween. These bats have bodies made with satin stitches and wings made with honeycomb stitches. Finally the eyes are french knots.
Lastly no Halloween is complete without pumpkins. My pumpkins are made out of satin stitches only.
The plan is that the Halloween embroideries will be made into place-mats for the Halloween table. Unfortunately my sewing machine has just broken down and it is ‘only’ 25 years old. It is amazing how dependent you can be on such a machine, I will have to get something done about it very soon. Until then the place-mats will have to wait.
