After a break, which lasted many years, I have picked up knitting again. This means that I need a knitting bag for yarn and knitting needles. My bag is made out of a pair of old jeans, tambour embroidery and a piece of cotton fabric. The bag is one long piece of fabric folded using an old Japanese folding technique. The advantage of the folding technique is that there is only two short seams in the entire bag.

The tambour embroidery is made on linen like the one on the wash bag which I showed last week. The work for the wash bag was only embroidered in one direction. This time I have embroidered in two directions which give the result a bit more ‘life’.

The linen has been sewn together with panels of fabric from a pair of old jeans. The length of the fabric is based on the size of three squares. My squares are 19 x 19 cm, however, you can make them as small or as big as you like. The length of the fabric is three squares after each other. The width of the fabric is the same as one square.

I have lined the knitting bag with cotton fabric to hide the back of the linen. The lining is sewn together with the jeans fabric, turned and ironed with sharp edges. Finally the fabric is folded following the pattern shown above.

I have sewn the two short seams by hand, however, it could also be done on the machine. The advantage of this knitting bag (besides being easy) is that you can make a knot with the two ends to close the bag. The picture in the start of this posting shows the knitting bag closed with a knot.

The bag is already in use and hopefully it will not be long before my summer blouse is off the needles.
