I made a lot of paper cuttings when I was a child. I made cards, mobiles and a lot of other interesting things. One cutting was more advanced and complicated than the other. For some reason I lost my interest for cutting in paper and for the last 30 years I have made none. Now my interest is slowly redeveloping and the first one I have made is these swaying plants.
The plants have been cut out of a page from an old book. I can’t make freehand cutting. Before I start cutting I’m drawing the final picture on the back of the paper. The light blue paper, onto which the plant cutting has been glued, is also from an old book. In many books there is a coloured page as the first and the last page. If you are recycling books it is important to get hold of these pages as they can be used for a lot of things. The best way to glue the paper cutting onto the paper is using spray glue. Spray glue ensures that there is no lumps and that glue is not ending up places where you don’t want it.
The picture I have made will be put in a frame on the wall, however, the cuttings can be used for a lot of things. I definitely have to work a bit more on my cutting skills as they are a bit rusty. The combination of paper cutting and recycled old books is however, something which I’m crazy about. I’m sure this is a combination which I will use again in the near future.
